[ale] unsupported codec

All I can go on is the output you gave us; I've never even heard of
tovid before. Looking at "Unsupported codec (id=11) for input stream
#0.1", it makes sense to look at this section of the output:

Input #0, avi, from '/movies/mymovie.avi':
 Duration: 01:24:56.5, bitrate: 1144 kb/s
 Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, 592x320, 23.98 fps
 Stream #0.1: Audio: 0x2000, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s

Particularly the last line; it is the last line in that section to
which the error refers. The "0x2000" is the identifier for the codec.
Presumably, if tovid knew anything about the codec, the name would be
there instead of the hexadecimal identifier.

If mplayer plays the file fine, then converting it would mencoder
would probably be easier.
