I really doubt you will convince Speedfactory to sell you service at
lower than the advertised price. They are basically a Bellsouth DSL
reseller. When you sign up for Speedfactory they send a request to
Bellsouth to have DSL provisioned on your line. You pay Speedfactory
to deal with Bellsouth on your behalf; I assume it would be the same
thing if you signed up for Atlantic Nexus (cheaper than Speedfactory).
Bellsouth has a stranglehold on the Atlanta area. If you want to do
anything over the phone line it will, at some point, go through them.
I am shocked at the price Ken said he is paying for basic telephone
service. I couldn't get them to give me service for any cheaper than
$38 (after fees). The only "feature" I had was caller-id. I tried to
get Bellsouth to give me the toll plan where every outgoing call costs
25? or something, but they said it isn't offered in my area. Since I
wanted to stay with Speedfactory I had no choice but to pay Bellsouth
$38/mo. Completely ridiculous.
