Geoffrey,

Instead..... I booted up a former disk running the same OS and got no
reported errors at all after some hours, so concluded it was the drive and
have now RMAd it back to Seagate. I too have no fault experience with
Hitachi and Samsung and expect this to be my last Seagate  :-(   Too many
wasted months of installing/configuring for this...a new experience for me.
