[ale] mozilla won't start b/c default profile is busy, HUH ?

If you look a bit closer, you will see that the above is likely a 
directory which contains the whole of your mail files.  If you remove 
it, it will fix your problem, but also delete any and all email you have 
including any folders you've created.  I don't think that's what you 
want to do.

cd to your .mozilla directory and do the following:

find . -name 'lock' -print|xargs ls -l


You should see a lock file that is a link to another file that resembles 
your ip address.  This is likely the culprit.

As with anything else, I'd suggest that you backup the whole of your 
.mozilla directory before doing anything else.
