Or it might just be network slowness.  Verify your NIC is running the
same as the switch port it is plugged into.  If you are running 100 Base
T - set it to 100 Full duplex and turn off auto negotiation on both
sides.

Does /etc/resolv.conf look identical on all machines?

If the slow machine has additional entries in resolv.conf, then that can
cause slowness if the additional entries can't be reached.
