I took one of those old IBM keyboards apart once and never would again. Each key had about 5 parts. It was in an environment where dust was a major issue and I took it apart to clean it and put it back together (finally). Other than that I never had a problem with those keyboards.

If you are old enough to remember (and appreciate) the touch of
the original IBM Selectric typewriters (the ones with the "golf ball")
then do a search for "buckling spring" keyboards.
This is the same key board that IBM used for the early PC. It is
still made with/without the Windoze keys and with/without the
audible "click" for each keystroke.
For many years I made my living hammering away at a keyboard (newspaper
writer and editor) and I think this keyboard has the best touch of
any computer keyboard on the market today. I've had mine for five or
six years now and it still works like new.
You can find it here:

They offer one customized for Linux users (Ctrl, Esc, Alt keys moved
around) for $69. USB available. I _think_ I paid about $50 for mine --
a basic model without the extra Win keys.
