The "integration" of gparted with the livecd installer annoyed me as well. The
transition is slow and far from seamless. Thankfully they're writing their own
frontend

from the klugy partitioner, I feel it's faster because it asks fewer questions
(admittedly this has its downsides) and copies the livecd filesystem rather
than installing package by package (I think). Obviously, your mileage varies,
which is why it's great that they make both methods available.
