[ale] [Slightly OT] Configuring GTK E-macs font?

Does anyone have any idea how emacs-snapshot-gtk under Ubuntu can have
its default font set, without using the -fn command line option? I have
been searching for awhile now, and it does not seem to listen to X
resource settings, either in .Xresources or explicitly loaded with xrdb.
Any ideas? I can use the command line (and a shell wrapper) to load it
with the right font from the command line, but I cannot get it to work
anyway else. Which, makes me want to cry.
I have tried everything that I have found on the net thus far, which
includes:
emacs.font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
emacs*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
Emacs*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
Emacs.font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
emacs-snapshot-gtk.font:
-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
emacs-snapshot-gtk*font:
-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
emacs-snapshot-gtk.pane.EmacsFrame.font:
-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-*-*-*-c-60-iso8859-1
? among other things. If anyone knows where I can find the information,
or figure out why it does not seem to be listening, I would greatly
appreciate it!
? Mike
