I have, over and over too.  ;-)

I solved the problem by this:

dpkg --purge network-manager-gnome network-manager
apt-get install wifi-radar

all is mostly good, except I need a better Atheos driver, but I'll
probably replace the mini wifi card with a Aironet soon.
