Having been using the release candidates for Dapper Drake in the Kubuntu
line, I can highly recommend that for someone who wants to start out. Even
though I'm using pre-releases, I've not found any problems with it; though
that could be because I have been using Linux for quite some time and tend
not to think about how somebody new to the system might interpret things
that happen.

However, when the official release comes out, I'd give it a go. Kubuntu has
made me quite happy in terms of the available software, the ease of use,
and the automatic self-updating. It's quite nice.
