You are correct in our circumstance.  On the other hand, most large 
corporations replace laptops on about a 3-5 year basis.  When I was with 
AT&T, it was every 3 years.

I would not be happy purchasing a laptop that died in 3 years either. 
But then, I'd not likely purchase the walmart device.  I've got a Sony 
2.4 PIV that's going on 3 years now and I would hope I'll only have to 
replace it because I can't upgrade it any further, not because it's 
failed.  I've also got an hp laptop that I paid $500 for that I would 
like to see last 5-8 years, but 3 would likely be okay.

I still maintain that you're better off buying a brand name product and 
paying a $100 or $200 more.
