[ale] selinux backup: star or GnuTar

Redhat recommends 'star' for backup on RHEL 4. However, star is not as 
flexible or well-tried as GnuTar for backup & recovery. 
Any idea how come GnuTar is not chosen to be extended to cover the extra 
attributes needed for a selinux system? To me, extending GnuTar would be 
such a natural choice.
