Interest as in "Cool, I might come to meetings". Enthusiasm as in "Do work 
to form an official LUG". Hopefully the instructor will find someone in 
another class to run with this, I'm both a transient and too close to 
graduation.

Plus like you, I would prefer somewhere further north.
