| Hi all,

| This is my first email to this group. I'm glad that ALE exists, and I
| hope to find time to make it to a meeting soon.
|
| In the meantime, there's a bug in the 2.6 kernel code which affects
| me. Unfortunately I can only find it mentioned on one website:
| http://www.misticriver.net/boards/showthread.php?p=6023#post6023 and
| the links there are not working. I've posted to that forum, but no
| one has answered my post. My system is experiencing the symptoms
| described in this post.
|
| The question is, how can I figure out whether this patch has made it
| into any of the Debian kernels? Once I figure that out, then I'll
| figure out whether to attempt to recompile my kernel. I'm not one for
| compiling things, and I'd rather not play around w/ the kernel, but
| I'm willing, if need be.

Josh,
~ Great to see you on the list! I am assuming x86, and I think you
had told me something about a possilbe Knoppix install. Here are a
couple of things that will help:

The output of uname -a:

The relevant lines at the end of dmesg output just after connecting the
iRiver unit to your machine

The config file associated with your kernel, found in /boot with a name
like config-2.6.10-x86 or something.

We can then look at the config file and the patch that link mentions.
It looks to be quite a small patch; possibly even something configurable
in the menuconfig interface, which is accessed via the "make menuconfig"
command.
