That is exactly why I tried gnome-l just to see how short I could make
it and still get something returned. I have never done an online update,
I'll do that tonight.

You are running SuSE 9.2 right?  This is going to sound stupid, but you 
sure you typed it correctly?

Here's what I've got:

Search field: gnome-libs-devel
Search in: Name and Summary checked
Search Mode: Contains

And I get one entry gnome-libs-devel


The last thing I can think of, is whether you have done an online 
update.  I doubt this would make any difference, but I'm at a loss 
beyond that.
