That's not an issue of the modem but rather the program and/or
chat-script talking with it.  USR & Microcom use slightly
different command syntax, as do most all different modem
makes/models.

He hasn't answered the question (yet? :) about what he's
trying to "do" but maybe he's interested in "terminal mode?"
I still use that quite often with c-Kermit.
