[ale] Cable modem in bridge mode

I currently have a SpeedStream 5200 DSL modem and a Netgear WGR614
wireless router.  I've been having some troubles with P2P and such even
though I had port forwarding turned on at the Netgear router.  The
issue appears to be the modem which I'm told needs to be switched to
bridge mode.

I know how to 'reset' the modem to bridge mode, but I would need to
enter my account username and password in the Netgear interface.  I see
a place for the account name but not password using the Netgear's web
UI.

Anyone else setup similarly and how is this done?  I'm not too familiar
with PPPoE and the interface is working fine now with the exception of
not being able to forward some ports, which I know I'm going to want to
continue to do.  Any issues Linux/UNIX wise with switching to PPPoE?
