Presentation: Novell Open Enterprise Server
Join us at the February ALE-NW meeting where James
Taylor of The East Cobb Group presents a review of
Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) features and
functionality, and a demonstration of a functional OES.
In 2003 Novell capped their ongoing effort to provide
cross platform computer services with the purchases of
Ximian and SuSE. Since then the company formerly known
primarily for their NetWare network operating system has
rolled out several Linux releases and has further
integrated their productivity tools into their Linux
platforms.
Coming in March of this year will be the first major
release of a Linux offering that provides all of the
traditional Novell core services on an enterprise Linux
server. Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) provides a
true directory-enabled file and print services solution
based on Linux. It includes a native heirarchically
rights structure on the NSS files system, automatically
delivery of printers to Windows, Mac and Linux clients,
client access via NCP, SMB and Apple protocols. It also
includes all the internet based file and print services
currently available on NetWare and Windows servers,
including NetStorage, iFolder and iPrint.
