My dad is 87 and earlier this year I got him to try knoppix 3.7 Live and
he loves it. He is basically
an Internet and Email Junkie so it works fine for him and I gave him a
128mb USB Flash Disk and showed
him how to save his dial up config, and desktop to it and he is happy as
punch.

He doesnt do much text writing etc. and does not need formal things like
OO or Word so I taught
him the basic VIM and he is fine.

The biggest feature for him is that it Never Never crashes out from
under him and he doesnt have to
worry about anyone compromising his hard disks with some type of virus
since it is all run from memory.
This is especially important with email.
Also, I must have reloaded Win98 50 times for him in the last
3-4 years, and that does not happen anymore as his net access is via
Knoppix.

When he wants to save something I have him mount his disk momentarily,
write the data and unmount
the disk.

Klaus Kopper is to be congatulated for his efforts, he is a true Patriot
of Linux.
