I have also found the free version of SuSe that you can pull down via 
FTP and burn to a CD is quite good.  I installed it onto an emulated 
386 in VirtualPC on my Mac and had quite pleasant results (although I 
did have to cut back on the quality of the graphics, but that is an 
emulator problem, not the distro.)
