True. But CygWin allows me as a developer to write code for both
platforms using a single source tree. That's a biggy.
And in the spirit of Larry Wall, there's more than one way to do it:

I like the choices OSS brings to the table. I like that I can run gcc
on either platform. And it is a very easy sell to my Windows clients
when I can convert them over, via CygWin/X and Gnome2, to a Linux-like
environment... They then agree to go all the way...
