[ale] question about SAMBA and a windows program called ACT

Van,

With most shared database-type products like ACT, they should
work fine on Samba, as long as you create a separate share for
the database files and turn off opportunistic locking. This
allows the database program to do its own locking internally
and avoid Samba from getting in the way. You can turn it off
with one or more of the following configuration options:

oplocks = no
level2 oplocks = no
kernel oplocks = no

You may have to do a little more research/experimentation to
determine exactly which of these settings (or all) you need
to make the ACT database run happily on Samba. I just did a
quick Google search for "ACT Samba oplocks" and found this:

http://itdomino.act.com/act.nsf/docid/200110485036

That pretty much seems to confirm what I just said above.

Good luck!

Alan
