~ Thanks for stepping in to speak at the meeting! This will be my
first meeting, and I look forward to your topic. It may be too late to
respond to your question, but one question I have had is about some of
these open source licenses that the big vendors are using for things
such as Eclipse, BEA Weblogic Workshop, etc. The SCSL and CPL come to
mind off the bat.
~ For instance, if I had a friend <cough> who built a native JDK using
Sun's SCSL code on FreeBSD, then used that native JDK to host
applications on the Internet, would that friend have opened himself to
licensing liabilities? I think there are some issues like that which
are common to lots of open source developers that we aren't forced to
face as long as what we are working on remains in obscurity. However,
if something we are doing does gain momentum or popularity, have we then
set ourselves up for harrowing legal consequences once we are on the radar?
