Gnome is a bear to build from scratch. It has stuffspread out all over
the place. The solution I have found is Garnome. It downloads all the
sources and works out the deps pretty well. Then it compiles the entire
mess into a directory of your choice where you can set startx scripts to
use and test a new version of Gnome.
