[ale] OT: MS Media Services Probing PC?

I agree, and am in the process of changing my kids computer to non billy goats 
(or was it billy gates :) )    stuff. My kid likes real player stuff and it 
is constantly harvesting information and accessing a website somewhere.  

While on the topic of using something other than M$ stuff, is there a Linux 
equivalent of Family Tree Maker (a genealogy program)??  anyone??
