[ale] Upgrading 2.6 kernel

I just compiled my kernel and kept time:
bzImage:
real 6m6.233s
user 5m2.062s
sys 0m38.898s
modules:
real 24m33.403s
user 21m42.767s
sys 2m24.339s
This is on an AMD XP 3000. The compile took place on a ramdisk.
After all that I only have 300k in swap spaced used.
