[ale] New Hardware

Dow,

   For your applications at work, I would definitely stick with
Opteron. The I2 is really a floating-point only box and
not that great at it (the Opteron is pretty dam close to it).
Beside the I2 is something like 3 times the cost of the Opteron.
   If I remember correctly, the I2 boxes also suffer from
memory bandwidth issues like the Xeon for SMP boxes.
That is, they share the memory bandwidth. Of course, the
Opteron CPUs on an SMP box get full access to the memory
bandwidth.
   Besides, even HP is now selling Opterons. I've also seen
rumors that Dell is selling Opterons! Perhaps my ice skates
for Hell will come in handy.
