After reviewing Dow's comments on kaddressbook, I don't think your issues are
resolved. I can only get a fax number to display as "Other". But there are
enhancements to the address book. You can add a photo, a wave file or geo
data for the entry. Kaddressbook itself is now part of Kontact, which is one
application containing Kmail, Knotes, Kaddressbook, Korganizer, Knode and a
summary page as kparts all together. The summary page can pick up limited RSS
feeds and the weather, as well as showing pending appointments, todo's and
new e-mails. All kde applications now have interactive spell checking. This
includes Konqueror. So, you get spelling help as you fill out forms on the
Web. There is also a password minder called Kwallet that can keep all of your
passwords under one password. It's optional, if you don't like that idea. I
never paid much attention to Ark before, but I like being able to extract
files immediately upon downloading. You can do this within Konqueror. Kgpg
does a great job of managing keys and can verify them on the key server. You
don't need to leave Kmail to do this. And Konqueror is much improved too.
It's faster and more stable and offers a thoroughly customizable sidebar,
that has useful builtins (like a media player) and can add any URL that you
find useful. So, yeah, I think that's a quantum leap forward from the 3.1
series. For office use, Kontact alone would be worth the upgrade. And I think
everyday users would be pleasantly surprised by the interactive spell
checking.
