[ale] memory check in bios

I've seen it when mixing memory brands and sizes on an old 
P-120 system and 486DX system.  Try either different memory 
or switch the sticks around.  Differing the placement in the 
slots would cause the machines to either not boot, exhibit 
your behavior, or run normally.  I didn't have a bad chip, I 
just was looking for the right order in the slots to get the 
BIOS to recognize and work with the memory.
