Please do not "ping" the list. Sending email to hundreds of people
to find out if you are subscribed to a list is not only rude, but
it is a waste of bandwidth and decreases the signal to noise ratio
of the list. To find out if you are subscribed, use the mailman
interface linked to at the bottom of every email sent to the list.
 
You can also view the archives, and see if the last message there
matches the last message you have received from the list. If so,
then you are probably still subscribed, and the list is still active,
even if it hsa been a whole 18 hours since the last post.
