[ale] getting dosemu to print to lpt1

I have an old (circa 1984) app running in dosemu (works really well, 
using the FreeDOS that came with it), but I'm having some trouble 
printing.  It's on a FC1 box running dosemu-1.2.1.0, and the app is 
trying to print to LPT1.  I've edited the dosemu.conf file, and setup 
the $_printer var to "lp", "lpr -l" (necessary sometimes for cups), and 
just "lpr".  I've verified that the printer is working, and that cups is 
working (printed a test page from cups).  I've also done an ls | lpr -P 
hp5000, which worked fine.  When I try to print from my little MS DOS 
app (via dosemu) though, I get the following error:

lpr: unable to print file: client-error-not-found

Any ideas?  I'm going to continue googling, but I'm not sure what more 
I'm gonna find.
