Both Mandrake and SuSE do this via slightly different mechanisms.  It doesn't 
detect insertion/removal, so it can't open a file browser automatically, but 
you just ls /mnt/floppy and there is your content.  No mounting it necessary.

I don't understand why all distributions don't do this.
