Yes, from within OpenOffice it is possible to export directly to pdf.
HOWEVER be aware the resulting file is MUCH LARGER than the file you
get when you print to postscript and then use ps2pdf. I have done this
whole proceedure a lot in the last few weeks. By exporting to pdf
directly from within OpenOffice, a three page document ends up being
100Kb or more. Using the method of printing to postscript and then
converting to pdf with ps2pdf command line utility produces a 6Kb file
from the exact same three page document. So 6Kb verses 100Kb, same
quality and content, you decide.
