Thanks for saying this - I couldn't agree more. I think the 'Greed is
good' types are actually confusing the profit motive with greed. They
may be related, but they're not the same.
~From my viewpoint, greed is where the profit motive ceases to allow
itself to be limited by ethical and moral considerations. Essentially,
it's where the profit motive becomes an idol. At that point, gushing
about the 'goodness' of the profit motive is irrelevant - the issue
isn't the goodness of the profit motive, it's whether or not it's being
used to undermine other good things that are of equal or perhaps even
more importance.
