Thanks for saying this - I couldn't agree more.  The 'greed is good'
types seem to confuse the profit motive with greed.  I tend to define
greed as the point where the profit motive ceases to pay attention to
any other motives or limitations, ethical or moral.  Essentially, it's
the point where the profit motive becomes an idol.  At that point, no
amount of protestations about the good points of the profit motive
really justify what greed wants to do.  Greed is the profit motive out
of balance, and the solution is getting it back into balance & willing
to be limited by ethical and moral concerns, not arguing about whether
the profit motive is good or bad.
