[ale] USB->IDE problems

I think an ID10T error was the issue.  I did not have the power cable
plugged all the way into the HDD inside the case.  After I rectified
that problem it formated nicely.  

It did seem to take I/O down with it.  I may need to purchase a el
cheapo 2.0 USB/ Fireware card on Ebay.
