I got the latest source from the web site I was given. It compiled
clean on my 2.6.1-bk4 kernel but nothing useful from the -scan.

Doing my tests as root. Once I get it working I'll put a normal user in
the right group.

devfs, it'll restore at next reboot.

Nope, didn't get that until I removed the /dev/video, etc.

I did this with the /dev/video and /dev/video0 recreated per the
driver's README.

As root:
0}:/lib/modules/2.6.1-bk4/kernel/drivers/usb/media>insmod /usr/src/kernel/qc-usb-0.6.0

dmesg:
  drivers/usb/core/usb.c: registered new driver quickcam

root at spirit
{127}:/lib/modules/2.6.1-bk4/kernel/drivers/usb/media>ls -la /dev/video
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           11 Jan 18 21:34 /dev/video ->
/dev/video0

root at spirit
{0}:/lib/modules/2.6.1-bk4/kernel/drivers/usb/media>ls -la /dev/video0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 81, 0 Jan 18 21:34 /dev/video0

root at spirit
{0}:/lib/modules/2.6.1-bk4/kernel/drivers/usb/media>xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.90, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.1-bk4)
looking for available devices
port 53-53
    type : Xvideo, image scaler
    name : NV Video Overlay

That's it.
