[ale] kernel 2.4 hard drive problem

If you built both kernels from scratch, you should still have a .config file 
in the directory where you have the source for the old kernel. Examine all of 
the settings for IDE  that you have in the old kernel. That's IF you have the 
old .config file. It's always a good idea to have your old kernel settings 
available when you're building a new one. Most people save a .config file and 
just reload it when they're building a new kernel. That offers the greatest 
level of reliability.
