[ale] power circuit based networking devices

I can get an APC device that will go inline to protect
surges from coming down ethernet lines. I just am wondering
if someone has dealt with the Netgear bridge and if any
power protection is available in the device. The network
connection would die if the power went out, correct?
The HPNA devices for home networking thru home phone wiring
seem to have fallen out of favor as I can't even get prices
from vendors on the stuff that I want. At least the HPB200
from Linksys doesn't seem to be available. I don't want to
be software driver dependent for phone wiring based
networking devices. There are still USB and PCI devices for
Windows machines that do HPNA, but that won't help me with
Linux and IRIX.
I want a standalone device that has an ethernet port and a
RJ-11 port. Does the HPNA stuff by itself and the device
plugs into a UPS. I'd like the RJ-11 should be able to go
thru a surge protector too. Bandwidth doesn't have to be
over 1Mb/s, either. Any ideas? Thanks,
Dow
