One thing I love about this machine, a Precision i360n
workstation, is that it is completely silent. It is a P4 at
2.8GHz, 1Gb RAM, 800MHz FSB, Nvidia Quadro FX1000, 1x120Gb
and 1x80Gb HD, external Firewire LaCie 2x DVD-R/RW/RAM,
internal DVD-ROM, and a Floppy drive. Came with
Hyperthreading enabled and RH9.0 installed. Dell has an
extra partition with sound and video SRPMs that reconfigure
automagically with kernel updates via Dell boot scripts. I
have two 19" monitors that the Nvidia card drives as one
OpenGL enabled desktop. Works great for molecular modelling
using Schrodinger's Maestro/Macromodel package for Linux.
I just checked and if you go thru the Medium to Large
Business pages the Precision Workstations are offered with
Redhat Linux. The small business and home pages don't show
it as an option.
I just priced thru the Medium to Large Business pages my
workstation now and it comes to $2998 including the 19" CRT
monitors and 3 years parts with next day onsite labor.
