[ale] Laptops and Linux

Mike!  I see that you made it back home safe.  Was the house in good
condition when Geof left?  :-)

I've run Debian and Redhat FC1 on a Satellite 5205 laptop with good
success rate.  I do remember that wireless had some minor blips.  

http://linux-laptop.org provides a good starting place.
