Just read an interview with 3Ware in Linux Pro.  "More than half our business 
is in Linux."  And, "3Ware went to market with Linux as the core OS supported, 
rather than going after the traditional storage plays in the Windows 
environment."  This Scott Cleland, 3Ware's director of marketing saying this 
stuff.  It was a good article that showed that SATA Raid has support via 3Ware 
products.  8 ports is listed as what most businesses are after and 3Ware has 
cards with 2-12 available.  He says that they test with SuSE and Redhat but 
Debian changes so much it is hard to target.  Mandrake is one distro they will 
test on in 2004 and eventually Fedora.

He says:
They believe in SATA as a server drive not just a desktop drive.

They use a SCSI model with features like dynamic sector repair, 
disk-scrubbing, and protection against spurious power on resets while data is 
in the cache.

A burn in on an ATA is 9 hours.  So you can't burn in a drive like with SCSI 
drives.  (I don't know how long a burn in is on a SCSI drive?)

They are in the kernel with a supported 64bit driver.  They have a kernel 
developer on staff for driver development.

Their architecture was designed from the ground up with the Linux kernel in mind.

They attach 50K drives per month.
