[ale] (no more) SPAM talk...

I agree and want to point out the parallel of this process in scientific 
literature.  You have to have the names and addresses for correspondence since 
you might need to contact the person with the brilliant mind that published 
the work.  I've done the same thing as Geoffrey to reply to people or ask 
questions.
