My house is close to 40 years old.  The line from Bell comes in to a 
block in the basement and then branches.  When I installed Earthlink 
DSL, I ran another wire from that block to the DSL modem and plugged 
it in.   I did not install any filters.  It works, and there is no 
inteference to simultaneous voice.  Not elegant, but it works.
