Yes, no backup, i.e., tape, other than the theoretical redundancy of
the RAID disk itself.  Apparently there's certain information about the
configuration of the RAID set on the card itself.  Simply replacing the
card does not allow non-trivial recovery.

Btw, another company I have worked with also didn't backup their RAID
array.  The fans in the box failed and all the disks cooked.

Offsite backup is the ONLY way.  A personal safe deposit box is an
excellent solution and makes the box tax deductible if you store
business or employee-related data/records.
