[ale] Bind newbie question

I set it temporarily to godaddy's parked servers.  I do have a static ip. 
But GoDaddy croaks when I try to use the ip:

"Invalid domain name extension: 66.23.197.142"

So I'm assuming they require a domain name as opposed to ip?!?
