Builds are much slower than on the old RH-6.2 setup, but I can live with 
that. Altogether I am much happier using newer tools and libs.

Thanks to all for your help.

Now I need to get PPP dialup working and I can hit the road again. The 
rest of the cleanup can be done piecewise.
