The SuSE install routine asked if I wanted to save the
existing Winbloze partition and I told it, in effect, "no,
reformat the entire drive." At that point the SuSE install
routine went about its own thing -- without even asking me
which file system I might want installed on the newly
formatted drive.

I have tried to pry some data from the hard drive with
fdisk, but only get error messages. I have tried:

fdisk /dev/hda
The number of cylinders on this drive is set to
7297. There is nothing wrong with that but this
is larger than 1024 and could, in certain setups
           cause problems....

fdisk /dev/hda1
Device contains neither a valid DOS partition table
nor Sun, SGI, or OSF disklabel.

fdisk /dev/hda2
           Same as above.

fdisk/dev/hda3
           Same as above.

Sean,
who is still scratching his head.
