Yes it is a mediaGX chip.  Slackware does see a problem with what seems
to be a design flaw and makes corrections for it per the dmesg file.

I forgot to add the important fact that in my case I tried Win2000 also.
What got me thinking about condemming the CPU was Win2k occasionally
would "find" a previously non-present math co-processor.  Knowing that
the MB that this CPU had been in previously had suffered a catastophic
transistor failure (read as FIRE!), and that the Chip in question had
gotten REAL hot, I posited that the CPU had lost some part of its'
Co-processor.  I popped the CPU into another box and had the same
problem, thus the CPU was bad.

That 233 isn't one of those MediaGX chips, is it?
