[ale] No devices listed with lsusb ?

Does anyone know why I don't have any devices listed when I type ' lsusb 
' ?  Also, I have no USB devices or (anything for that matter) listed 
under /proc/bus/usb.  I do, however, have devices listed under 
/proc/bus/pci and I do get output from ' lspci '.  I'm on kernel 2.6.0 
and /proc is mounted.  Is there something I left out of my kernel config?
